Alka Kanaya, M.D., Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the Division of General Internal Medicine. An expert in type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Kanaya is Principal Investigator of the MASALA study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to determine risk factors for subclinical atherosclerosis among South Asian Americans and the study on Restorative yoga vs. stretching for adults with metabolic syndrome (PRYSMS study). Dr. Kanaya is an internist at UCSF where she leads a research program for fellows at UCSF.  She also sees patients in General Medicine at Mount Zion Clinic where she instructs residents in care of their patients.
